PURPOSE: To produce an Ag-Sn-Bi type internally oxidized contact material having superior melt resistance and contact resistance and excellent in workability. CONSTITUTION: This electric contact material can be obtained by using a powder mixture prepared by mixing (1) Ag-Ni alloy powder having a composition consisting of 1-5wt.% Ni and the balance Ag, (2) Ag-Fe alloy powder consisting of 1-5wt.% Fe and the balance Ag, or (3) Ag-Co alloy powder consisting of 1-5% Co and the balance Ag with Ag-Sn-Bi alloy powder having a composition consisting of 2-6wt.% Bi, 1-10wt.% Sn, and the balance Ag. Further, in this electric contact material, the grains of Bi-Sn compound oxide, the grains of the oxide of Bi or Sn, and the grains of the oxide of Ni, Fe, or Co are dispersed in Ag and also >=80% of these oxide grains have <=1μm grain size.
