PURPOSE: To avoid the damages of a blade and injury of an operator by forming a cutting side at a nose part of a cut insert, forming a face inside thereof, and forming a number of small longitudinal grooves with the specified pitch inside thereof to eliminate the coiling of the chip. CONSTITUTION: A cutting edge 3 is formed at a nose part 2 of a cut insert 1, and a work is cut by this part. A face 4 is formed inside the cutting edge 3, and a number of small longitudinal grooves 5 which are arranged in the same direction with the specified pitch (p) are formed in the face 4. The small longitudinal grooves 5 are in the range of 0-40 deg. in the angleαof the cutting edge 3 relative to the perpendicular (n), and in the range of 0.1-0.5mm in the pitch (p) respectively. When the chip cut by the cutting edge 3 slides on the face 4, the chip is sunk in the small longitudinal grooves 5 to achieve the deceleration, and to bend the chip in the spring shape.
