Coding/decoding apparatus and method

The coder generates code information A1-AN, each representing one of Q quantization points of an input signal, where Q is an integer equal to or less than 2x and X is a positive number, synthesizes the code information A1-AN into a code H through an operation: H=A1QN-1+A2QN-2+ . . . +AN-1Q+AN, and outputs the code H. The decoder inputs the code H, separates the code H into code information A1-AN through operations with decimal fractions of quotients truncated: A1=H/QN-1 A2=(H-A1QN-1)/QN-2 AN-1=(H-A1QN-1-A2QN-2- . . . -AN-2Q2)/Q AN=H-A1QN-1-A2QN-2- . . . -AN-2Q2-AN-1Q, and reproduces an output signal based upon the thus-separated code information A1-AN.
