PURPOSE: To smooth paste filling to a current collector and enhance charge acceptability under high temperature by filling a pasty active material mix containing a nonionic thickening agent in a three-dimensional porous body. CONSTITUTION: 100 pts.wt. nickel hydroxide powder, 3-12 pts.wt. cobalt oxide powder, 0.4-4 pts.wt. oxide powder or hydroxide powder of an alkali earth metal calculated in terms of the alkali earth metal, and 24-45 pts.wt. thickening agent aqueous solution prepared by dissolving a nonionic thickening agent in ion-exchanged water or distilled water are mixed to prepare a pasty active material mix. The pasty active material mix is filled in a three-dimensional porous body. The cobalt oxide powder enhances the conductivity of the whole active material mix, oxidized to CoOOH during charge to increase activity of a nickel electrode, and energy storage capacity density of the nickel electrode is increased. |
