PURPOSE: To obtain the subject action substance obtained from phaeophytin, useful for stimulating the growth of the silkworm and increasing the body weight of the silkworm, and useful for artificially rearing not only the domesticated silkworm but also the wild silkworm (wild silkworm, tussah, Chinese tussah). CONSTITUTION: A phaeophytin-containing hydrophilic organic solvent solution is mixed with water to give a hydrophilic organic solvent (methanol, ethanol, acetone, etc.) concentration of 65-85wt.%, preferably 70-80wt.%. The mixture is extracted with a hydrophobic organic solvent (hexane, etc.), and the solvent is subsequently removed from the extract to obtain the silkworm ingestion-inducing action substance substantially having maximum values at 668, 608, 533 and 410nm in the visible light absorption spectrum. The action substance is added in an amount of 0.7-2.9wt.%, preferably 0.4-1.5wt.%, for the artificial rearing of the silkworms. The phaeophytin is extracted from the leaves of Quercus acutissima, oak, etc., or from Undaria pinnatifida, tangle, etc. |
