A system/method for determining approximate vehicular gross combined weight (GCW) for a vehicle equipped with an electronic data link (DL) is provided. GCW is determined, preferably immediately after upshifts of a transmission (10), and requires input signals, preferably from the data link, indicative of engine or drivewheel torque (DL) and indicative of vehicle speed. $$
