PURPOSE: To obtain a method and a device for surely detecting the existence or nonexistence of a crack inside a cell passage of a honeycomb molded body by a simple method. CONSTITUTION: In regard to a crack supposed to be in the direction parallel or perpendicular to the direction of a cell passage located inside a honeycomb molded body l, a pressurized gas supplied from a pressurized gas supply probe 3 is made to flow into one or a plurality of cells from one end face of the body. The pressure or flow rate of the gas in the cell passage except the cell in the part of the honeycomb molded body 1 with which the pressurized gas supply probe 3 is brought into contact is measured in a leak gas collecting chamber 4 covering the whole of one end face and compared with the pressure or flow rate of the gas in the cell passage in the part with which the probe 3 is in contact, and thereby, the existence or nonexistence of the crack in the direction parallel or perpendicular to the direction of the cell passage can be detected. |
