The invention relates to a device for bringing solids in the form of pourable pieces into contact with liquids, or solids into contact with liquids and gases, in a reactor by putting the reactands together. The reactor has a housing containing a screen unit in the region of which contact takes place, where the screen unit is a rotating trommel screen (5), rotatable during operation in a base tub (10) in which there is a gaseous or liquid agent capable of reacting with the solids, and the base tub (10) can be lowered until the solid pieces in the trommel screen (5) and the agent in the base tub (10) can be separated to modify or stop the chemical reaction or physical process.
