PURPOSE: To provide an optical fixed attenuator which is easily produced by using a normal optical fiber and obtains a desired extent of optical attenuation. CONSTITUTION: Two optical fibers 2a and 2b have the axes of cores 3a and 3b shifted from each other and are fused in a fused part 4. By this fusion, an optical transmission loss is brought about between two optical fibers 2a and 2b to give an optical attenuation effect. Two ferrules 1a and 1b have space parts 5a and 5b formed in the center part of the end part on the coupling side. These ferrules 1a and 1b are inserted from both sides of welded optical fibers 2a and 2b and are coupled by using a sleeve 6, and both end faces are ground. The fused part 4 is stored in space parts 5a and 5b, and a step in the fused part 4 is easily housed. These ferrules are housed in a housing which can be connected to an optical connector and are protected. |
