PURPOSE: To provide a KANA (Japanese syllabary)-KANJI (Chinese character) conversion device which has high accuracy of conversion. CONSTITUTION: The words corresponding to the inputted KANA are retrieved out of an independent word dictionary 11 which stores the reading, writing and part-of-speech information on the independent words and an annex word dictionary 12 which stores the reading, writing and grammar information on the annex words. Then connection properties are decided between the retrieved independent and annex words and also between the retrieved annex words based on the part-of-speech information and the grammar information so that the paragraph candidates are generated. The presence or absence of the modifying relation is decided between the generated paragraph candidates based on the part of speech of the first independent word serving as a modifying paragraph, the part of speech or the second independent word serving as a modified paragraph and the modifying relation rule that prescribes the conditions to satisfy the modifying relation between the first and second independent words. Then the priority is decided among the paragraph candidates based on the presence or absence of the decided modifying relation. |
