PURPOSE: To reduce the coupling loss of a stabilizing metal wire and a superconducting wire or the like regardless of the directions of magnetic fields by causing a superconducting-filament embedding portion and a stabilizing metal portion to be twisted in opposite directions and have different pitches. CONSTITUTION: To use a superconducting wire 24 under a fluctuating magnetic field including longitudinal magnetic field components, a superconducting-filament embedding portion 22 in which superconducting filaments are embedded and a stabilizing metal portion 14 split apart by a high-resistance metal are twisted in opposite directions and have different pitches. Therefore, a coupling current produced as a result of shielding of the longitudinal magnetic field components meets the high-resistance metal more frequently when crossing the portion 14 from the portion 22 and is thereby suppressed. Coupling loss within the superconducting wire is thus reduced even at the application of not only transverse magnetic field components but also longitudinal magnetic field components. When the portions 14, 22 are twisted in opposite directions and have the same pitch or twisted in the same direction and have different pitches, or when a superconducting wire of low-degree of twisting is used, similar effects can be obtained.
