摘要 PURPOSE: To provide a dispersion compensator capable of easily compensating the wavelength dispersion of an optical signal. CONSTITUTION: The optical signal with wavelength nearest to specific wavelengthλM mode-converted by a TE/TM mode conversion element 16 and provided with center wavelengthλ0 on a long wavelength side slightly longer than the specific wavelengthλM is inputted to the TE/TM mode conversion element 16. The shorter the wavelength (as approaching the specific wavelength), the larger the angle of rotation of a polarization plane (ratio of rotation is increased) on the long wavelength side of the specific wavelengthλM. Therefore, the optical signal is provided with the rate of rotation depending on the wavelength. Delay depending on the angle of rotation of the polarization plane can be generated by propagating a polarized wave preservation optical fiber 12 connected to the output terminal 16b of the conversion element 10.
