PURPOSE: To provide object illumination light which is bright and has small energy loss by condensing efficiently the light of a light source incorporated in a camera head, and in addition, irradiating a half mirror highly precisely with this light. CONSTITUTION: The half mirror 5 to refract illumination light co-axially to the optical axis X of an image pickup optical system 4 is arranged in the camera head 1 provided with the image pickup optical system 1 to make an optical image incident upon a CCD element, and simultaneously, a light source 6 for illumination is arranged so as to be opposed to the half mirror 5, and a bundle fiber 7 made by bundling a large number of optical fibers whose diameter is smaller than 250μm and in addition, selecting its length to be more than 10 times as long as the optical fiber is interposed between the half mirror 5 and the illumination light source 6. Then, the illumination light source 6 consists of a light emitting diode with a condenser lens or a filament lamp with the condenser lens, and the emergent angle of its illumination light is selected to be smaller than the maximum light incident angle of the optical fiber to constitute the bundle fiber 7.
