CHARGING CONTROL DEVICE FOR SEALED BATTERY

PURPOSE: To promote the start of a seal reaction without giving damage to a sealed battery by charging a sealed battery at a charging current greater than a normal value before starting the seal reaction and charging the battery at the normal value after the seal reaction has started. CONSTITUTION: A charging current control unit issues instructions of a charging current I=I1 to a charging unit. A voltage detecting unit detects a charging voltage V of a battery successively and reports it to the charging current control unit. The charging current control unit judges whether the charging voltage V has reached a specified switching voltage V1 or not and commands the constant current charging at a constant current I2 to the charging unit when it reaches. The charging method judgment unit judges whether the voltage V to be detected indicates a dropping tendency or not. If the judgment of a step 106 in the charging method judgment unit is not established until a timer has timed up, the next charging is determined so as to follow a first charging method. If the judgment of the step 106 is established before the timer has timed up, a second charging method is determined from the next charging.
