Dissolved organic substances such as cyanides in an aqueous solution are electrolytically oxidised to carbon dioxide gas and nitrogen by means of chromium and nickel alloy steel anodes. Apart from enabling cyanides to be completely oxidised without producing ammonia, the use of such electrodes enables an electrolyser with bipolar electrodes to be provided in a particularly simple fashion, and substantial savings may be achieved, especially on the cost of the electrodes.
|
