432,220. Exercising - apparatus. KEMPSON, A. H., 36, Bennett's Hill, Birming- ham. Feb. 7, 1934, No. 3993. [Class 132 (i)] In exercising-apparatus of the type set forth in Specification 396,334 the crank spindle is provided with a combined flywheel and brake disc. As shown, the supports comprise tubes 5 and 12, housing the handle bar 7 and saddle 14 respectively, and stays 9, 15 secured to a base consisting of two members 10. A further stay 16 connects the tubes 5, 12 and the connecting bracket 17 houses the crank shaft 19 carrying pedal cranks 20 and a fly-wheel 22, a boss 23 on the flywheel being grooved to house the leather or other brake band 25, which is anchored at 26 to the base and connected at 27 to the inner cable of a double concentric cable which passes within the base 10 and up tube 5 to a knob 28 serving, for example, by screwing it inwardly or outwardly in the handle bar, to adjust the tension of the band. A spring 29 tends to loosen the brake band. In a modification the outer periphery of the flywheel is grooved to receive the brake band. A tension spring may be provided between the bracket 26 and the band. Alternatively, the ends of the band may be connected together and preferably through a spring to the adjusting cable.
