发明名称 LIQUID CRYSTAL DEVICE AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE FORMED BY USING THE SAME
摘要 PURPOSE: To obtain a liquid crystal device which suppresses dependency on wavelengths and does not degrade a contrast at a good wide visual angle when the device is combined with polarizing plates by specifying the product of the thickness of a light controllable layer and the double refractive index of a liquid crystal material in a specific value range. CONSTITUTION: The product Δn.d of the thickness d(μm) of the light controllable layers and the double refractive index Δn of the liquid crystal material of a random type liquid crystal device having the light controllable layer supported between two sheets substrates which have transparent electrode layers and at least one of which are transparent and having the light controllable layers contg. the liquid crystal material and the transparent solid material is 0.35 to 0.80. The liquid crystal device has a light control function to allow the transmission of linearly polarized incident light as it is or to allow the transmission after conversion of this light to elliptically polarized light, circularly polarized light or linearly polarized light shifted by 90 deg.. The light control function has the light controllable layers hardly affected by the dependency on wavelengths appearing by a change in the incident angle. As a result, the device lends itself by electricably operating to applications where the shielding or transmission of light at a high rate is needed. The device is useful for an optical analyzer, optical experimenting apparatus, etc.
