<p>An input stage (front end) is described for an optical broadband receiver, which contains a monolithically integrated Darlington circuit made up of bipolar transistors (T1, T2). The Darlington circuit, a simple integrated amplifier (OP) developed for VHF applications in the 0 to 2 GHz range, has been improved in terms of its linearity through the addition of a suitable transimpedance resistor (RT) to the extent that it can be used in conjunction with an avalanche photodiode (APD) in the 0 to 5 GHz frequency range and also in conjunction with PIN diodes for short-length and medium-length optical transmission paths. …<IMAGE>… </p> |
