A calibrator (I) for use in a test procedure for detecting defective coagulation Factor V (F5) contains non-human plasma (or its fraction contg. F5) and human plasma. Also claimed is the use of animal plasma (or its fraction contg. F5) as a replacement for human plasma or human F5 which shows a specific mutation, esp. where the mutant human F5 is not, or only slowly, cleaved by activated human protein C (APC).
