The metallic fixing for wood or metal guard rails is composed of a casing (1) extended by a wedging bracket (2) enabling attachment to a tubular upright (3). This bracket, which has racked slots (4) on its sides providing numerous fixing possibilities, has a V shaped bottom (5) enabling the upright to be locked by a wedge (6). The casing is split in its upper part (10) to allow free vertical and lateral sliding of a rod (12) having a folded rounded iron bar head for holding the rails between the uprights. The wedge has a slot (7) along its whole length, except for its two ends where it is interrupted for about 5 mm. This reinforces the side to be hit and prevent its complete exit. The slot is passed through by a rounded iron bar (8), of about 5 mm diameter, folded into a square at each end. The square ends are welded onto the bracket external side so as to not impede the wedging operation and prevent its loss.
