The winder, to wind a number of yarns into bobbins, has a lower support carrier, which is balanced and has a synchronised movement with the spindle carrier. The lower support has bearings to hold end ends of both spindles, at the opposite end to the drive end. A gripper is moved into the path of the bobbin spindle not in use, to grip the drive end of the spindle and lift it from the bearing bed in the spindle carrier and lower support carrier on a time action, so that the spindle carrier can be moved without the gripped bobbin spindle.
