The suspension comprises a frame (1) having a horizontal beam (2) which rests on posts (3) supported on wheels (4) on rails (5) on the roof (6) of a building (7). The beam is coupled to a cable (15) attached to a load (21). A lever (8) attached to the beam pivots about a horizontal spindle. A counterweight (12) is attached to a first arm of the lever and a second arm (13) of the lever is attached to the cable. When tension is exerted on the cable in the load direction the counterweight is subjected to an upwards force. The lever is composed of two plates located on different sides of the frame beam whose spindle (9) constitutes the common pivoting axis. Downwards displacement of the counterweight is limited by a stop located between the plates which, for the lowest position of the counterweight, rests on the frame.
