The pliers have two jaws (5,6), which extend into arms (2,3) and are rotatable about a pin (4). The arms can be locked and released, when in a chosen operating position in which they are close to one another. A lug (17) may be inserted into notches (18,19) in the arms, in the region in which they cross over. The lug may be spring-loaded into its locking position, and may have a grip (26) with which it can be operated. The operating mechanism may also be designed such that the lug may be operated from the outside of the handgrip.
