The work surface comprises a removable rectangular shelf (1) having a horizontal face (10) with a circular opening (4). The diameter of this opening is slightly larger than that of the pancake maker (C) which has a circular cooking plate (P). The shelf covers the pancake maker such that the cooking plate and the shelf face are in the same horizontal plane.The shelf face has openings either side the cooking plate, one opening takes a tray (2) containing the pancake mixture and the other takes a utensil tray (2') used for preparing the pancakes. The face has additional openings for receiving bottles (3,3'). The shelf front face (12) is open to allow access to controls (B) for the starting, stopping and temperature control of the pancake maker. The side faces (11) of the shelf are closed and have lateral gripping openings (13).
