An input voltage is passed via a transformer (8) to a secondary output stage (8b) and memory (14). The memory has a blocking diode (24) and parallel capacitor (22). A second transformer (10) applies an input voltage to a reset to zero circuit (20) which is applied to the return path of the capacitor.A switched pulse is produced which is applied to the input (16) of a current amplifier (18). The amplifier is driven through a driver circuit (12) with voltage input from a transformer (46). The current amplifier output is applied to a switching mechanism (2) across the high voltage rail (4), thus switching the high voltage.
