The machine automatically screws covers (8) onto the upper opening of containers (1), which can be stationary or moving on a conveyor. Each cover is placed on a container opening and screwed onto the container by causing rotation of screwing heads (14) carried by a fixed or movable support (7). The screwing head rotates the cover relative to the container about a common vertical axis.Each cover top is placed inside each annular and circular screwing head which rotate freely on their support. The screwing head is then lowered, with the cover held horizontal inside it, so as to bring it into contact with the container and screw the cover on the container with a predetermined torque. Each screwing head is then raised , holding the container and screwed cover, and the cover is then disengaged from the head.
