Cpds. of formula (I)-(III) are new: (I) (HMe2SiO)2-Si(R)-O-Si(R)-(OSiMe2H)2 (II) RSi[OSiMe2)xOSiMe2H]3 (III) [HMe2SiO(Me2SiO)x]2SiRORSi[(OSiMe2)xOSiMe2H]2 Me = methyl; RR = 2-18C alkyl; and x = 1-100. Also claimed are: (1) A method of making cpds. of formula (I) and (IV) comprising hydrolysing an alkyltrichlorosilane (ATCS) of formula RSiCl3 with dimethylchlorosilane (DMCS); (IV) RSi(OSiMe2H)3 (2) A method of making cpds. of formula (II) (detailed below); (3) Cpds. made by method (2); (4) A method of making cpds. of formula (III) (detailed below); and (5) Cpds. made by method (4).
