The oscillation detection system evaluates the amplitude and frequency of the crankshaft oscillation within a given rotation range, to provide a crankshaft oscillation indication when the amplitude is above a given threshold and the frequency is between defined limits. The operation of a combustion failure detection system, evaluating the variations in the crankshaft rotation rate is suppressed for a given interval after the provision of the crankshaft oscillation indication.
