The invention concerns azamethine dyes of formula (I) in which W is oxygen, sulphur or a group of the formula -NH-CO-, -NH-COO- or -NH-SO2-, Z<1> is C1-C4 alkyl which may also be substituted, phenyl or C1-C4 alkoxy, Z<2> and Z<3> are hydrogen or C1-C4 alkyl which may also be substituted, whereby the -CZ<1>Z<2>Z<3> group may not be linear and is not isopropyl, Z<4> is hydrogen, C1-C4 alkyl or C1-C4 alkoxy, Z<5> and Z<6> are C1-C10 alkyl which may also be substituted, C3-C4 alkenyl, C5-C7 cycloalkyl, phenyl or tolyl or, together with the nitrogen atom to which they are bound, a heterocyclic group, or Z<4> and Z<5> together form a bridging unit and T is a grouping corresponding to a cyclic acid H2T with CH groups. The invention also concerns a method for the thermal transfer of such dyes.
