Monomode fibre for optical data transmission in wavelength range defining lower limit of monomode range

The fibre has a fibre core (2) and a fibre cladding (1). It transmits optical data in a wavelength range which has a threshold wavelength as the lower limit of the monomode range. The cladding (1) is doped with a selectively absorbing material such that the threshold wavelength is shorter than a threshold wavelength provided without the doping.The cladding is preferably doped such that at least on outer partial regions (3) of the cladding (1) energy distributions with wavelengths less than the threshold provided without doping are absorbed more than those of greater wavelengths. In a preferred arrangement, the threshold wavelength is around 1300 nm, which is changed to 800 nm with the doping.
