The transmission has a gearwheel stage (25) engaged in the torque transmission via the lowest forward gear stage. The gear wheel stage is arranged between the output shaft (14) and the input side gear component (24) of the compensation gear (15) gearwheel stage (23). It can be uncoupled by the change gear coupling (26) from the output shaft. A second gearwheel stage is engaged in at least two successive stages of the remaining forward gears in torque transmission. For the change gear coupling a positively engaging unit is used. The gearwheel (27) fitted to the output shaft and belonging to the second gearwheel stage meshes with a loose wheel on the input shaft, which via a gearwheel coupling (31) is couplable with the input shaft.
