PURPOSE: To obtain alumina-based composite ceramics by dispersing TiN superfine particles in an Al2 O3 matrix and controlling the TiN content in Al2 O3 -TiN two-component-based composite ceramics. CONSTITUTION: The alumina-based composite ceramics comprises a sintered compact, containing 25-10wt.% TiN and TiN superfine particles uniformly dispersed in an Al2 O3 matrix and having >=96% relative density and the resistivity regulated within the range of 1×10<4> to 1×10<6> Ω.cm. The ceramics are produced by applying TiN superfine particles having 0.005-0.1μm average particle diameter to Al2 O3 powder having 0.1-10μm average particle diameter, controlling the amount of the applied TiN to 25-10wt.%, press forming the resultant Al2 O3 fine powder and then sintering the formed compact at >=1600 deg.C in an inert gas atmosphere. The resultant sintered compact maintains physical, mechanical and chemical characteristics essential to the alumina-based ceramics and has a high density and the controlled value of resistivity. |
