PURPOSE: To provide a caulking method capable of fastening an Mg based metal and other members with excellent fastening force and hermeticity. CONSTITUTION: A caulking tool 6 supported at a punch body 10 is pressed to the end edge 3a in the head part of a caulking boss 3. While this caulking boss 3 consisting of the Mg based metal is pressurized by this tool, its end edge 3a is extended outward and is continuously heated, by which the end edge is plastically deformed outward. The deformed part 3b is extended outward and is bent toward a second member 4. Both members 1, 4 are fastened by pressing the second member 4. The caulking tool 6 consists of a punch body 10 and a punch 6 fixed to incline at an angle of <=6 deg.C with the axis of rotation thereof. The part of the punch 6 to be pressed to the caulking boss 3 is formed to a tray shape in the inside surface. Sliding friction is attained by pressurization under a pressure of 1000 to 2500N. The pressurization is executed for 5 to 28 seconds at a number of revolutions of 1000 to 2000r.p.m. The part of the punch 6 for caulking to be pressed to the caulking boss 3 is coated with silicon oxide or zirconium oxide. A hermetic member is packed into the space 18.
