PURPOSE: To improve the resistance to erosion and spalling by forming the upper nozzle brick with an alumina-carbon brick using a silicon-modified phenolic resin excellent in oxidation resistance at high temps. as a binder. CONSTITUTION: Alumina, alumina-zirconia, mullite-zirconia and carbon as the brick materials and an additive are mixed, and a silicon-modified phenolic resin contg. 10-50wt.% Si are added by 0.5-10wt.% together with a binder such as pitch, tar, phenolic resin. The mixture is kneaded, press-formed heated at 30-100 deg.C to remove the volatile component to the extent that firing is not disturbed and fired in a reducing atmospher or in a nonoxidizing atmospher such as in a gaseous N2 current to obtain an upper nozzle brick. Although the silicon-modified phenolic resin alone can be used as a binder, the resin should be used with novolac resin, resol phenolic resin, etc., from the standpoint of economy and formability. |
