PURPOSE: To obtain a metal fiber/carbon composite material having a high strength and excellent in wear resistance by mixing metal fibers, carbon powder, a binder pitch, and granular carbon black reinforced with a binder, heating and press-forming the mixture, and subsequently carbonizing the formed product. CONSTITUTION: Metal fibers, carbonaceous powder, a binder pitch, and granular carbon black reinforced with a binder are mixed with each other, heated, and press-formed to obtain the formed product. The formed product is carbonized to obtain the objective composite material. The method for producing the composite material gives the excellent metal fiber/carbon composite material remarkably eliminated in the segregation of carbon black and in the quality irregularity caused thereby. The metal fiber/carbon composite material can be applied to a wide application range such as a carbon sliding plate for a pantograph also on practical uses due to original high strength and excellent wear resistance. |
