<p>A release member (10) for a quick connector (12) engageable with a fitting (14). The release member (10) includes a body formed of a resilient material and having first and second end portions (62, 64), with a slot extending longitudinally through the first and second end portions (62, 64) for mounting of the release member (10) over the fitting (14) and to enable axial sliding movement of the release member (10) through an open end of the quick connector (12) into engagement with a retainer (44) mounted within the quick connector (12) to effect release of legs (48) of the retainer (44) from an annular flange (30) on the fitting (14) and disengagement of the connector (12) from the fitting (14). A radially enlarged flange (70) is formed between the first and second end portions (62, 64) to form a tool engageable surface on the body for forcible sliding movement of the body into the open end of the connector (12). Alternately, a recess or a projection may be provided on the body to form the tool engageable surface.</p> |
