A method and system for producing coal-bed methane gas is disclosed. The method consists of drilling a wellbore (4) so that a coal seam (10) is intersected, and thereafter casing and completing the wellbore (4). A transducer (34) is lowered into the wellbore (4), with the transducer (34) capable of converting electrical energy to a sound energy. The transducer (34) is activated, and methane gas is then produced from the coal seam (10). The energy to the transducer (34) may be varied so that a maximum rate of methane gas production is obtained.
