A folding machine is disclosed for folding the side flaps (8) arranged on both sides of the middle part (6) of a foldable cardboard blank (5). Additional folding aids (12, 13, 14) are arranged for that purpose in the front area of the folding device. The folding machine may further have turning belts (9) for swivelling the side flaps inwards. The turning belts (9) are provided with projections for swivelling the side flaps (8) in a parallel direction to their folding grooves (7).
