Variable timing valve gear control

The device consists of a mechanism for changing the running characteristics of the valves of an IC engine. The valves are controlled by cams (4). The camshaft can be rotated in relation to the position of the crankshaft. An eccentric shaft (3) mounts cams (5) that are connected to the valve gear. A mechanical stop prevents the combination of certain camshaft radial positions and certain eccentric shaft positions. The mechanical stop consists of a bar (6), at right-angles to the shaft, that rests on an eccentric of the eccentric shaft, and a needle (11) that is at right-angles to the bar. Together the bar and needle act as a stop. The needle is concentrically mounted with the camshaft and is located by a controller, on the shaft axis (2a), that is part of the camshaft positioning gear.
