Metallic safety barrier which is employed to delimit a carriageway laterally and also as a traffic divider, advantageously on bridges and viaducts, and is anchored to the floor slab (57) of the bridge or viaduct and comprises a plurality of modular elements (31) consisting of a metallic material and having a New-Jersey type cross-section and being joined together to form a barrier (30) without a break in continuity, the barrier (30) comprising at its leading and trailing ends a connecting adapter element (76) for connection to modular elements (77) of another type, each modular element (31) of this barrier (30) comprising at least one frontal absorption panel (32) cooperating at its rear with at least one lengthwise stiffening element (35) and with transverse stiffening elements (36), the frontal panel (32) comprising in its front lower part a plurality of recesses (58) with which there cooperate means (56) for anchorage to the floor slab (57) of the carriageway, this frontal panel (32) including a base plate (34), at least one first lower segment (32a) having a steep slope towards the carriageway, a second upper segment (32b) having a less steep slope towards the carriageway and an upper element (74), each modular element (31) comprising connection means (69) at its sides. |
