<p>An illumination assembly and a method of operating an illumination assembly. The assembly comprises first and second light sources (12, 14), and optical coupler (16), and controller (20). Each of the first and second light sources has an activated state for generating light, and an off state. The optical coupler is provided to connect the assembly to a fiber optic cable, which may then be used to transmit that light to a location remote from the illumination assembly. In operation, the controller activates the first light source to generate light and to transmit light to the optical coupler. The controller also monitors the first light source and in case the first light source ceases to operate in a predetermined manner, the controller automatically activates the second light source to generate light and to transmit light to the optical coupler.</p> |
