A brush contact charging device for charging a light-sensitive drum of an imaging device utilising an electrostatic recording system is designed to replace the corona discharge system with the associated environmental problems of ozone generation, for contacting and charging the light-sensitive drum (35), a device (32, 33, 34, 36) for moving the body (31) to-and-fro in a direction normal to the direction of movement of the drum (35). A guide-element is driven (controlled) to hold the body (31) during the to-and-fro movement of the body (31).
