An electrical cooker has ring-shaped heating elements (2) set into a ceramic hob and the generated heat energy is applied to a cooking pot (3) placed on the surface. The lid of the pot has a built in temperature sensor (7) that provides wireless signal transmission to a temperature regulator (4). Built into the hob is a ring coil (8) that is supplied with low power AC to generate a magnetic field (9) that is used as an inductive coupling path for the temperature measurement signals transmitted via a coil (10). The sensing element is a resistance that is connected into an oscillator circuit together with the coil.
