The invention describes the segmented production of motor vehicles, especially mass-market front-engined vehicles, in two logically fitting main units from the technical production viewpoint. To this end the raw body is preassembled in two main units (front section (1), rear section (2)), which are independently fitted with their appropriate components; the front section (1) of the main body is fitted with the engineering components (engine, gearbox, auxiliary systems and the like) and the rear section (2) is fitted essentially with the fitting components (seats, upholstery, carpets and the like; after the main body (front section (1) and rear section (2)) have at least largely been completed, they are brought together and rigidly joined to each other. The front section (1) contains the concentration of the essential drive and operating components and the rear section (2) the remaining coachwork with added finishing components. Existing tooling can be used for assembly. No profound modifications are needed for vehicle styling and segments can be joined together by existing engineering methods. After the front (1) and rear (2) sections have been joined together, the components forming the final finish of the front of the vehicle, e.g. wings (3), bonnet (4), front doors (5), bumper (6) and radiator grille (7), painted in the vehicle's colour, are fitted. |
