A method of assembling a multiple component optical fiber connector, includes the steps of positioning an elongated body (22) with one free end (50) exposed, positioning a biasing component (26) over the exposed end (50), positioning a coupling nut (24) over the exposed end (50) and abutting the biasing component (26), and applying a retaining component (28) to the elongated body (22) to retain the biasing component (26) in a compressed state between the elongated body (22) and the coupling nut (24). The apparatus for assembling the connector includes a fixture (66) or nest for retaining the elongated body (22) of the connector in a selected orientation. Stations of the apparatus are included for placing the elongated body (22) in the fixture (66) in a selected orientation, placing a biasing component (26) on the elongated body (22), placing a coupling nut (24) on the elongated body (22) over the exposed end (50) and abutting the biasing component (26), and applying a retaining component (28) to an outside surface of the elongated body (22) for retaining the biasing component (26) between the elongated body (22) and the coupling nut (24) in a compressed state. The optical fiber connector (20) includes the coupling nut (24), biasing component (26) and a retaining ring (28) which are axially arranged on the tubular body (22). <IMAGE> <IMAGE>
