In a vehicle with an electric motor 17 and Na-S batteries 12, 19, 20, battery charging can be effected by axle-mounted alternators 5, 6 located adjacent each of the four wheels 10 of the vehicle and by two pairs of windmill-type alternators (21, 22, Fig. 3) located at the front and rear of the vehicle. The alternators are connected to rectifier assemblies 11 and a rectifier selector switch 13. A speedometer operated switch 18 connects batteries 19, 20 in series with battery 12 when extra battery power is required for slow/uphill movement, the batteries 19, 20 being charged during fast running. |
