PURPOSE: To shorten the processing time requried for generating a data conversion table. CONSTITUTION: A coordinate VXo corresponding to an initial point VYo obtained from a polynomial is obtaind from a sequential characteristic table, and a distance Ro from a target coordinate VXt is obtained. Taking the coordinate VYo as a fixed point, a coordinate point VXi corresponding to points VYi which are two-dimensionally arranged in k (>=1) quantization unit intervals is obtained from the sequential characteristic table, and a minimum distance Rmin is obtained. When the distance Rmin is smaller than the distance Ro , the coordinate VYi corresponding to the coordinate VXi related to the distance Rmin is substituted for the coordinate VYo and the distance Rmin for the distance Ro . The procedures are repeated until a negative judgement is attained. In the case of negative judgement, (k) is increased by only one and the coordinate VYo is set to be the fixed point. Whether or not the area surrounded by the two-dimensionally arranged points VYi is larger than a previously decided area is judged. In the case of negative judgement, the procedures are repeated until affirmative judgement is attained, and the coordinate point VYo is decided to be the coordinate point corresponding to the target coordinate VXt . |
