PURPOSE: To obtain a semiconductor-laser driving apparatus by which a proper bias current can be set automatically without installing an adjusting process with reference to the environmetal temperature and the secular change of the I-L characteristic of an LD and with reference to individual LDs and which can be realized at low costs. CONSTITUTION: A semiconductor-laser driving apparatus is provided with control means 11, 8, 10 by which a bias-current initial value Ibs1 and a switching-current initial value Isw1 are set as real numbers of Ibs1≈Ia-(Pa+C)/(Pb-Pa)×(Ib-Ia) and Isw1≈(Pb+C)/(Pb-Pa)×(Ib-Ia) [where C is -Pa<=C<=(Ia×Pb-Ib×Pa)/(Ib-Ia)] on the basis of Pa with reference to Ia for an LD and on the basis of Pb with reference to Ib.
