PURPOSE: To obtain an optical recording medium which has a good erasing rate and jitter characteristic and does not cause the deterioration in characteristics and the occurrence of defects by newly providing the rapidly cooled optical recording medium with a light absorptive layer. CONSTITUTION: Recording, erasing and reproducing of information with this optical recording medium are executed by irradiating the recording layer formed on a substrate with light and the recording and erasing of the information are executed by the phase transition between an amorphous phase and a crystalline phase. The optical recording medium has the transparent substrate/first dielectric layer/recording layer/second dielectric layer/light absorptive layer/reflection layer as constituting members and the film thickness of the second dielectric layer is specified to 1 to 50nm. The thickness of the recording layer is 10 to 45nm. The optical recording medium is newly provided with the light absorptive layer between the second dielectric layer and the reflection layer, thereby, the light absorption quantity of the recording layer of the amorphous state is decreased and the difference in the light absorption quantity from the crystalline state is lessened. Consequently, the difference in the temp. rise at the time of recording is lessened and the disturbance in the shape of recording marks, the deviation in the forming positions, etc., are decreased and, therefore, the erasing characteristic and jitter characteristic are improved. |
