PURPOSE: To disperse impact force acting on the top of a tool to keep the strength of a cutting edge longer for obtaining stable tool life by setting up a specified distance between a face and the center position of a cutting edge on the contact part of a workpiece. CONSTITUTION: A roughing endmill carries out concentrated cutting action by only the top of a wave-shaped cutting edge. For this reason, when the pitch of the wave-shaped cutting edge is designated by P, a part to participate in cutting is enlarged by shifting the cutting position of the wave-shaped cutting edge to an oblique face being separated as far as the distance of (0.1-0.2)×P from the top, and synergistic effect with a helix angle can be displayed for softening chamfering impact. In case of cutting by the oblique face of the wave- shaped cutting edge, since a rake angle in the generating direction of chips becomes a large angle which is not only a peripheral rake angle but also that combined with an axial rake angle or a helix angle, notable effect can be obtained in the improvement of a cutting property.
